A little history of this turkey. I have been seeing this gobbler the past 3 weeks near some property I primarily bowhunt. The first time I saw this turkey I noticed he was limping pretty bad....gimpy I called him.
I have seen him on and off in the afternoon as I would drive by and never figured he would end up in my freezer.
Well I went out tonight to hunt the same spot I shot my bird two weeks ago and found the field under water, no sign of turkeys and I was out of there.
Drove past a parcel I hunted in the morning and all quiet..I out of there.
Went to where I had been seeing "gimpy" and there he was out fanning in the old picked corn field on the neighbors. I pulled in and watched him thru the binocs and he was 300 yards away. I crept back to my bow stand and didn't figure he would get to me at all.
After 15 minutes of blind calling I got a gobble from "gimpy's" direction. I called again and sure enough another gobble and he was getting closer.
After about 5-10 more minutes the turkey was still on the neighbors out in front of me. He crested the hill fanned out and gobbling. I sweet talked him with soft yelps and he was coming right to me. 50 yards, 40 yards and as he stepped across the property line at 30 yards BOOM the hammer drops and so does "gimpy". He never flinched.
